Man arrested in killing of Retired St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Captain David Dorn, guarding a friends pawnshop

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney announced an arrest and charges days after a retired police captain was killed while providing security to a pawn shop being ransacked by looters.
Retired St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department captain David Dorn, 77, was fatally shot at Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry early Tuesday during a suspected robbery, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Surveillance video shows at least seven men burst into the store with their faces covered. The footage shows one of the men pointing a handgun toward the shop’s entrance.

Dorn was found dead on the sidewalk outside the store at 2:30 a.m., about 13 minutes after the footage ends.

Ann Marie Dorn, David Dorn’s wife and a fellow St. Louis police officer, said her husband worked for the pawnshop and was responding to a burglar alarm.
